Movie Review: The Wizard of Oz

The Wizard of Oz is a 1939 American musical fantasy film produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.

Review:

I remember I watched it when I was small, but I can barely remember the plot,

so I watch this fairy tale again, but now I am a grownup.

It is a story about a girl Dorothy,

Glinda the Good Witch of the North, as the falling house has killed the Wicked Witch of the East. Her sister, the Wicked Witch of the West, arrives to claim her ruby slippers, but Glinda transfers them onto Dorothy's feet first. Enraged, the Wicked Witch of the West swears revenge on Dorothy and vanishes. Glinda tells Dorothy to keep the slippers on and follow the yellow brick road to the Emerald City, where she can ask the Wizard of Oz to help her return home. On her journey, Dorothy meets the Scarecrow, who wants a brain, the Tin Woodman, who desires a heart, and the Cowardly Lion, who needs courage. Dorothy invites them to accompany her to Emerald City, where they can also ask the Wizard for help. Despite the Witch's attempts to stop them, they reach the Emerald City and are eventually allowed to see the Wizard, He agrees to grant their wishes if they prove their worth by bringing him the Witch's broomstick. And they truly did it.

However, the great wizard is not an actual wizard, he is a middle-aged man operating machinery and speaking into a microphone. This wizard surely can not give courage heart and brain to Dorothy 's friends, but when the win woodman, the cowardly lion and the scarecrow tried to rescue Dorothy from wicked witch of the west, they already gain all of it by work as a team, all they need is something physical to prove and convince themselves that they already have it. The Wizard then gives the Scarecrow a diploma, the Lion a medal and the Tin Man a ticking heart-shaped watch, helping them see that the attributes they sought were already within them.

But when came to Dorothy, this wizard committed he will take Dorothy home. But when they prepare to depart, Toto becomes distracted by a cat and leaps from Dorothy's arms. As Dorothy pursues Toto, the balloon disembarks with the Wizard, leaving her behind. Dorothy is heartbroken , for she thought she finally knew the way home, when she was crying, Glinda showed up, told her the red flippers on her shoes can take her home.

She woke up at home finally, but everyone assumed her experience as a dream.but Dorothy insists it was real and says she will never run away from home again before declaring, "There's no place like home!"

The magician gave them only items of symbolic significance, even more, outrageous than in the novel, which makes us more believe tin man and lion and scarecrow already, The scarecrow often utters "I have an idea." The tin man shed tears. Although the lion shows its timidity all the time, it does not hesitate to solve Dorothy and contributed its own tail. The quality of the Scarecrow is particularly evident in the movie.

Good qualities are not something you can get from others, they naturally came when you're experienced it. And that is exactly why Glinda didn't tell Dorothy this rad flipper can take her home at beginning, she wanted her experience it , when Dorothy was at home, she tried to find another place to life, but ultimately she knew "there is no place like home " come, and no one can relace you to experience it.

The scene of real-world is black and white, but the one in the dream is colourful, which I think is a symbolization of ideal world, and her friends and witch can also find reflection in the real world.
